Florida Panthers head coach Paul Maurice received massive news this morning regarding injured superstar defenseman Seth Jones.
The towering blueliner has been completely out of the lineup since suffering an upper-body issue at the Winter Classic. That extended absence severely tested the depth of this entire organization.
The medical staff finally cleared him to ditch the yellow no-contact sweater at today's morning skate. He was taking full-contact reps and pushing hard on his edges.
Seeing the 6-foot-4 defender operating in a regular practice jersey is a massive boost for a battered locker room. The squad responded with visibly higher energy levels.

The Eastern Conference playoff race is an absolute dogfight right now. Florida desperately needs their top-pairing anchor back on the ice to secure hard points.
Key player returning for Panthers
Over his NHL career, the veteran defenseman has consistently eaten up hard minutes against elite competition. He averages well over 24 minutes a night when healthy.
His sudden absence left a massive hole on the back end. The current defensive rotation is bleeding high-danger chances on a nightly basis without him.
With 24 points already in the bank through his first 40 appearances this season, he single-handedly drives the offensive output from the point.
Maurice needs his workhorse back immediately to solidify those controlled entries. You can't win a physical playoff series without your primary puck-mover dictating the pace.
The front office expects him to officially return to the active roster before this upcoming back-to-back schedule concludes. They'll monitor how his body responds tomorrow morning.
The entire Atlantic Division is watching closely. Because when fully healthy, he completely changes the physical dynamic of this entire roster.
