Sam Reinhart, Florida Panthers, Team Canada momentum feels real after the Winter Classic spotlight.
A tweet making the rounds claims that if Canada wins Olympic gold this year, Sam Reinhart could become the first player to combine Olympic gold with Stanley Cup championships, Men's Worlds gold, and gold at both the U20 and U18 levels.
That sounds like internet hype, but the foundation is very real. Reinhart already has U18 gold from 2013, World Juniors gold from 2015, and a Men's Worlds gold from 2016, and he is headed to his Olympic debut at Milano Cortina.
Friday in Miami was a perfect snapshot of who he is for Florida. The Panthers got drilled 5-1 by the New York Rangers, yet Reinhart still scored Florida's lone goal on the power play when almost nothing else worked.
Sam Reinhart keeps Team Canada dreams realistic
As a Panthers fan, I swear Reinhart is the guy you notice most when things look messy.
He doesn't panic, he just keeps arriving on time in the slot and winning little battles along the wall. That «quiet leader» label fits because he proves his value every shift, not every quote.
The league knows what he is, even when fans drift toward louder stars. Reinhart is 30, was drafted second overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 2014, and carries an $8.625 million cap hit on his long-term deal.
Now add the international angle and the conversation changes fast. If Canada delivers, Reinhart would at least join the Triple Gold Club, and the junior golds make his resume feel almost unfair.
Some stars are loud, some are obvious, and some are simply relentless. Reinhart is the last kind, and the Olympics are the next stage where everyone might finally notice.
