Sergei Bobrovsky and the Florida Panthers keep winning on the road, and Ed Belfour is suddenly part of the same sentence.
Monday in Buffalo, Bobrovsky didn't need to be flashy, he just needed to be firm. He made 20 saves in a 4-3 win that stayed tight right to the final seconds.
That result came with a milestone that feels bigger than one night. Bobrovsky earned career road win number 206, tying Belfour for the third-most in NHL history.
Only Martin Brodeur with 310 and Marc-Andre Fleury with 246 have more, which is wild company for a goalie who was never drafted. It's the kind of stat that screams longevity, but also weekly reliability.
His numbers won't always pop in January, but his impact still does. He stays patient, holds his edges, and finds that one extra save when a breakdown feels inevitable.
Sergei Bobrovsky lifts Florida Panthers on road
You can feel the bench relax when Sergei Bobrovsky is dialed in.
At 37, he's basically the definition of veteran consistency, and his teammates talk about him with real respect. He's also a two-time Vezina Trophy winner, and you don't get there without years of elite habits.
The other part of this story is how far up the all-time ladder he's climbed overall. Bobrovsky sits at 446 career wins, already eighth in NHL history, and he's chasing more Hall of Fame names every month.
Florida's margin in the East can feel razor-thin, and the points swings come fast in this conference. That's why the Panthers lean so hard on Bobrovsky's ability to erase one bad turnover with one huge stop.
It's also worth noting his contract runs out after this season, with a $10 million cap hit on the books. If this is his last year on that deal, he's still playing like the team owes him nothing but trust.
And yeah, it's a shame we likely won't see him at the 2026 Olympics, because Russia has been excluded from the Olympic hockey tournaments.
If Florida wants another long spring, it starts with No. 72 turning one scary moment into calm, again and again.
