Maurice got the win, then showed pure class speaking about Colorado's captain

Sunday's 2-1 win was a real statement by the Florida Panthers after Friday's Winter Classic misstep. It also handed Colorado only its third regulation loss of the season, and snapped a 10-game win streak.
The mood shifted in the second period when Landeskog went hard to the net and crashed awkwardly. He stayed down for a long stretch, needed help off, and did not return.
It's the kind of moment where you expect the winning coach to keep things short and move on. Maurice did keep it short, but he didn't move on, and that's where his class showed.

Paul Maurice has nothing but praise for Gabriel Landeskog in his postgame comments

As a fan, it hits different when a coach wins big and still makes room for empathy.
Maurice basically framed Landeskog as the heartbeat of the Colorado Avalanche, and a leader the sport is better with. He also pointed to the captain's tough recent years, and how badly Colorado needs him in the room.
Paul Maurice carries himself with a rare kind of class, the kind that shows up in the small moments after a big win, when most coaches are eager to move on. Around the league, he's earned real respect because he's steady, honest, and never chasing the spotlight, even when the story is sitting right in front of him.
His players clearly buy in, not just because he's been around forever, but because he knows exactly what he's asking of them and why. There's a calm authority to the way he manages a room, he holds the standard, he protects his guys publicly, and he still tells the truth when it matters.
You can see the experience in his decisions, the clear plan in how he rolls his bench, adjusts on the fly, and keeps everyone focused on the next shift instead of the noise.
Maurice is the type of coach you respect as a competitor and as a person, because he's built on consistency, preparation, and the kind of leadership that doesn't need volume to be felt.
