The Florida Panthers have officially added some grit to their bottom-six rotation after head coach Paul Maurice successfully landed forward Cole Reinhardt via waivers today.

NHL insider Chris Johnston confirmed the transaction as the Panthers snagged the 26-year-old from the Vegas Golden Knights just hours before the trade deadline. It is a shrewd depth move for the defending champions.
Reinhardt brings a much-needed physical edge to the fourth line. He has been a consistent presence on the ice this year, appearing in 44 games for Vegas while recording three goals and four assists.
While his offensive output is modest, his impact is felt through his high motor and heavy hits. He has already racked up 84 hits and a career-high 19 PIM over the course of the current campaign.
Reinhardt is a perfect fit since he is on an affordable cap hti of just $812,500.
The Calgary native was a sixth-round pick by Ottawa back in 2020 before signing a two-year deal with Vegas last summer. He finally found regular minutes in the Show this season.

Why Florida made this move

Adding a player with Reinhardt's profile suggests the coaching staff wants more sandpaper in the lineup. His ability to play a simple, North American game should make his integration efficient.
The move comes as Florida looks to snap out of a recent cold stretch. They have struggled to maintain their defensive structure, and a fresh face in the locker room could provide a spark.
Reinhardt averaged nearly 10 minutes of ice time per game in Vegas. He is expected to slot directly into the penalty kill unit to help stabilize a group that has looked leaky since February.
Vegas likely hoped he would pass through waivers to help their AHL affiliate in Henderson. Instead, the Panthers jumped at the opportunity to secure a reliable veteran for the stretch drive.
Expect Reinhardt to be available for the upcoming road trip as the team prepares for a heavy schedule. This claim is a clear signal that every roster spot matters in South Florida.
The transaction was finalized just as the league-wide chaos reached its peak. While other teams are chasing blockbuster stars, the Panthers are quietly shore up the trenches.
