Florida Panthers Winter Classic at loanDepot Park is Florida pride in full view.
The NHL posted a fresh look inside the build at loanDepot Park, and it's the kind of clip that makes you stop scrolling. You see the rink and the vibes, but you can almost feel the hours behind it.
This is history for the state, Panthers vs. New York Rangers in the first outdoor NHL game ever played in Florida. The retractable roof setup also makes Miami the southernmost site to host the Winter Classic.
The ice work alone is a small miracle in a warm market. NHL operations laid 253 aluminum pans, ran piping to Mobile Refrigeration Units, and sprayed mist in layers to build thicker outdoor ice than Florida uses indoors.
Then comes the part that makes it feel like Miami, not a generic outdoor rink. Workers hauled in live palm trees, and the NHL creative team planned a full «snow meets sun» scene with props that scream South Florida.
That's why I keep coming back to the people, not just the pretty wide shots. Months of planning get squeezed into a handful of frantic days, and it takes ballpark staff, contractors, and league crews moving in sync.
Florida Panthers Winter Classic built by an army
As a fan, I love the postcard, but I'm honestly thinking about the workers first, because they're the reason the puck can drop cleanly.
NHL designer Greg Mueller said you need «all of these people involved» to turn an idea into reality, and you can see that truth in every corner of this setup. When the cameras pan, you're really watching coordination.
And yeah, it hits different in Florida. NHL.com framed this game as a spotlight on hockey's rise in the state, and the Panthers have given the local scene real credibility over the last few years.
Now the only proper thank you is a game that matches the effort, sharp changes, simple exits, and no sleepy first period. Friday night is a party, but it's also a chance for Florida to show the hockey world what Miami looks like when it's all-in.
