The dominoes are starting to fall in Sunrise, and the Florida Panthers might be preparing for a monumental shift between the pipes.
With the March 6 trade deadline just 48 hours away, general manager Bill Zito has officially secured some crucial goaltending insurance.
According to reporter David Pagnotta, the Panthers have signed veteran netminder Louis Domingue to a one-year, two-way contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
Panthers have signed G Louis Domingue on a one-year, two-way contract for the remainder of this season.
On the surface, bringing in a 34-year-old journeyman might just look like standard organizational depth.
But when you connect the dots with the recent revelation that Florida is pivoting to a full seller's mentality, this transaction speaks volumes. As reported yesterday, Zito is actively listening to trade offers for franchise cornerstone Sergei Bobrovsky.
Domingue the insurance policy for a Bobrovsky blockbuster?
If Bobrovsky agrees to waive his 16-team no-trade clause to chase another Stanley Cup with a contender, the Panthers desperately need someone to eat minutes in the crease.
Domingue provides a "clean slate" and the necessary "solid execution" to support the goaltending tandem down the stretch of a lost season.
Known for his incredibly positive locker room presence, Domingue offers a much-needed emotional "bump" for a roster navigating the stress and disappointment of dwelling at the bottom of the Atlantic Division.
Head coach Paul Maurice knows exactly what he is getting with Domingue, a consummate professional who can step into the fire on a moment's notice.
Moving Bobrovsky's massive contract mid-season is an incredibly complex puzzle. However, adding a capable veteran like Domingue to the system gives Zito the absolute freedom to pull the trigger if a rival general manager meets his asking price.
The writing appears to be on the wall at Amerant Bank Arena. We could very well be witnessing the final hours of the Bobrovsky era in Florida.
