Sergei Bobrovsky is officially on the trade block, and head coach Paul Maurice is preparing his locker room for a massive departure.

The 37-year-old veteran netminder has likely played his final game in a Florida Panthers uniform as the 3 PM trade deadline looms large.
Moving a massive $10.0 million cap hit is incredibly complicated mid-season. General managers across the league must employ serious creativity to navigate the tight salary structures.
According to TSN insider Pierre LeBrun, two serious contenders have emerged from the pack as the primary suitors.
The Carolina Hurricanes and the Vegas Golden Knights are the final two suitors. They are actively engaged in deep, complex negotiations to land the prized goaltender before the buzzer.
Both franchises desperately need championship experience between the pipes for a deep spring run. Vegas always strikes big at the deadline, holding a strong track record of aggressive moves.
Florida is completely out of the playoff picture this season. The organization is strictly focused on selling pieces and accumulating future assets for a quick retool.

What can the Panthers get in return for Bobrovsky?

Carolina and Vegas simply cannot absorb a new elite starter without moving one of the goalies currently on their active rosters. The tight cap math and roster limits demand a positional swap.
This mandatory goaltending swap clears the necessary crease space for the acquiring club while giving Florida a stopgap option in net to finish out the string.
Draft pick compensation will completely dictate the final terms of this blockbuster deal. The exact round heavily depends on the overall financial structure of the trade.
If the Panthers retain up to 50 percent of that remaining salary, the draft capital coming back increases significantly. They are essentially buying high-end draft picks with their open cap space.
The return package could easily feature a protected first-round selection alongside the requisite roster player to balance the books.
Over his NHL career, the two-time Vezina Trophy winner has proven he thrives under intense playoff pressure. He dragged Florida to the promised land and brings an undeniable championship pedigree to any contending locker room.
A massive shift in the NHL power dynamics is imminent. The entire hockey world is anxiously watching the clock hit zero on the trade deadline.
