Brad Marchand returns from injury and rips up the Minnesota Wild with three points, including an overtime winner, as the Florida Panthers depth suddenly feels real again.
His first shift looked like a guy who was tired of watching.
Two goals and an assist in a return game is loud enough on its own.
The loudest part was the timing, Marchand buried his second goal in overtime to end it.
The Panthers beat the Wild 4-3, and Marchand's overtime strike came three minutes in, right off a 2-on-1 look.
Sam Bennett's power-play goal late in regulation was the other swing moment, because it erased a short-handed punch and kept the game alive.
Paul Maurice sounded almost relieved talking about his forward group finally looking deep again.
Jameson Olive posted Maurice's exact line on it, «You're excited about every line you put on the ice because there's a chance something's going to happen.»
Brad Marchand makes the Florida Panthers bench feel loaded
If you're a Panthers fan, this is the version you trust, the one that makes every close game feel winnable instead of stressful.
Maurice's point is simple, when your top nine is legit, coaching gets cleaner.
He can roll four lines without praying for one perfect matchup shift.
Even when the Wild pushed, Florida kept finding answers both ways, pressure in the offensive zone, then structure when the puck turned over.
That's the identity piece Marchand reinforces, pace, bite, and quick decisions that keep the other team defending.
Maurice also mentioned he barely used the fourth line because the night turned into a parade of power plays.
He would have liked to get them a little more ice, especially with the back-to-back continuing Sunday in Chicago.
The bigger takeaway is that in a one-goal type game, Maurice can now throw any of his top three lines over the boards and expect something good to happen.
And when Marchand is the one finishing in overtime, that confidence spreads fast into the next night.
