Florida Panthers trade chatter has David Pagnotta pointing to blue line depth, and Tyler Myers keeps popping up as a fit.
The latest buzz is simple, Florida wants depth pieces, and the back end sounds like priority one. That tracks with how the season has felt, because the margin disappears fast when the schedule tightens.
Seth Jones being out a couple of weeks only sharpens that urgency. It forces more minutes onto the same handful of bodies, and it makes you wonder what happens if one more defender tweaks something.
That's why Pagnotta's note hit, Florida is «starting to map out» who could be available, especially on the blue line. It reads like a front office that wants options ready before the market gets desperate.
The funny part is Panthers fans have seen this movie before. Bill Zito loves small moves that look boring on deadline day, then end up playing real minutes when the games get mean.
Florida Panthers eye blue line depth
This is where Tyler Myers becomes interesting, even if it's just a dot on the whiteboard right now. He's a massive right shot who can kill plays with reach, and he doesn't need power-play time to justify his shift.
The other piece is the human one, Myers has never won the Stanley Cup. If a true contender calls, it's believable he'd consider waiving his protection for a shot at the one trophy he still hasn't touched.
Contract-wise, he's not a cap nightmare, which matters for Florida. Spotrac and PuckPedia both list his cap hit at $3.0 million through 2026-27, and that's the kind of number you can actually fit if the deal is clean.
The catch is control, because his full no-movement clause means he picks the destination. If he likes Vancouver and wants to stay, the conversation ends right there, no matter how perfect the «fit» looks on paper.
If Florida does add a defender, I'm not expecting a headline name. I'm expecting a guy who can survive defensive-zone starts, clear the net front, and let the stars keep their legs for the next round.
