The Florida Panthers are shaking up the defense. Head coach Paul Maurice is relying on Uvis Balinskis to lock down the blue line tonight.
Florida is preparing for a heavy Eastern Conference clash against the New Jersey Devils. The coaching staff confirmed multiple lineup changes following Tuesday's morning skate.
Balinskis and Tobias Bjornfot will draw back into the action. They replace veterans Jeff Petry and Donovan Sebrango, who will sit out as healthy scratches.
But Maurice wants more speed and mobility on the back end. The Panthers currently sit with 63 points and are dead last in the Atlantic Division.
They need crisp passing to break through the Devils' aggressive forecheck. Bjornfot provides that exact element with his smooth skating and controlled entries.
Petry and Sebrango have struggled to maintain the transition game over the last three outings. A night in the press box gives them a chance to reset physically and mentally.

Can Nosek fix the Panthers bottom six?
Nosek has been sidelined with an injury since training camp. His return adds instant veteran poise to a fourth line that has occasionally lacked a true checking identity. However, he will make his season debut tonight.
Over his NHL career, Nosek has been a dominant force in the faceoff circle. Winning critical defensive zone draws is exactly what Maurice demands from his role players.
General manager Bill Zito is watching this current roster configuration closely. With the March 6 trade deadline just three days away, these internal auditions carry massive weight.
Zito has a projected $2.1 million in available cap space. If this defensive group falters, he might be forced to acquire a rental blueliner before Friday afternoon.
Florida cannot afford to be held scoreless in the opening frame. They must dictate the pace early to keep the Devils on their heels and protect their home ice.
Puck drop is rapidly approaching at Amerant Bank Arena. It is time for solid execution from a team with Stanley Cup aspirations.
