Florida Panthers center Sam Bennett still believes in Paul Maurice and his locker room. The postseason window is slamming shut.

Sunday's 5-4 road loss to the New York Islanders was an absolute gut punch. The defensive structure collapsed entirely in the third period. Unacceptable.
Florida now sits seventh in the Atlantic Division with a lackluster 30-27-3 record. They're stuck at 63 points. The math is getting brutal.
Bennett addressed the media with a clear message for the fan base. He simply refused to wave the white flag on this current road trip.
«It's definitely nice getting some bodies back, and hopefully we get some back here soon,» Bennett stated following the final buzzer.
«We're on the road here. We know how important games are. We're sticking together as a team. We're going to fight to the very end.»

Slipping Down the Standings

Fighting to the end sounds fantastic at the microphone. Execution on the ice is a completely different story. The transition game needs serious work.
Bennett is doing everything in his power to keep the offense afloat. Over his NHL career, he has consistently brought that heavy, physical edge.
He already has 20 goals and 45 points through 59 games played this season. That kind of consistent offensive output is exactly what the front office pays him for.
But individual statistics do not secure playoff spots in this league. Bennett currently carries a -10 rating. The two-way play must tighten up down the stretch.
Florida needs crisp passing and disciplined defensive zone coverage immediately. There is zero room for passengers right now. Every single guy has to pull his weight.
Getting healthy bodies back into the daily lineup is their only remaining lifeline. Key forwards were held scoreless on the power play far too often last month.
The Panthers have a massive mountain to climb. The Eastern Conference wild card race is notoriously unforgiving. Every single point matters from here on out.
We will see if this locker room actually backs up Bennett's rallying cry when the puck drops next. Talk is incredibly cheap in March.
Winning hockey games is the only currency that counts. They either string together a massive win streak or pack their bags for an early summer.
