Season-ending injury news are immediately looming in the Florida Panthers locker room after Team USA gold medal win at the Olympics against Team Canada.

While the Americans celebrate a 2-1 overtime victory in Milan, the mood in Sunrise is likely turning toward damage control.
The Florida Panthers saw seven of their players compete in the Olympic medal rounds for Finland, Canada, and the USA. It was a massive showing for the organization, but the physical toll of that high-stakes environment appears to have broken the roster.
Yesterday, the United States, led by Matthew Tkachuk, beat Canada in the finals. That Canadian roster featured three key Panthers: Sam Reinhart, Brad Marchand, and Sam Bennett. The battle was intense, but it left the Panthers’ core in tatters.
According to insiders, the Panthers could be forced to shut down Marchand and Tkachuk due to injuries. This would be a catastrophic blow to a team already struggling to find its footing after two straight championships.

Panthers could lose Marchand and Tkachuk for the rest of the season, could end up sellers at deadline

Losing both superstars would inevitably lead to GM Bill Zito being a seller at the deadline. With the trade freeze lifting, Zito has some incredibly difficult decisions to make regarding the future of this group.
Panthers are currently last in the Atlantic Division. Despite the talent on the roster, they sit with just 61 points through 57 games.
They are only nine points away from a playoff spot. In a normal year, that’s a gap you try to close. But without Tkachuk and Marchand, the hill becomes a mountain.
If they feel they won’t make it, becoming a seller is ideal. Recouping assets for a lost season is the veteran move.
Here's what Jimmy Murphy and Jeff Marek had to say about the Panthers' situation:
The internal conversations have shifted from a three-peat to a rebuild on the fly. You cannot replace the grit and offensive output those two provide.
The Olympic gold came at a massive cost for the local club. If the medical reports confirm the worst, expect a fire sale in Sunrise.
