The NHL trade deadline has officially come and gone, and the Florida Panthers are actively picking up the pieces.

After decisively entering "seller mode" this week and shipping out multiple established roster players to stockpile future assets, general manager Bill Zito now needs to ice a fully compliant and competitive roster for the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.
According to Panthers beat reporter Alex Baumgartner, the organization has officially recalled veteran forward Luke Kunin to the NHL club ahead of their weekend slate.

A necessary veteran presence for the final stretch

With several prominent names exiting Sunrise ahead of Friday's cutoff, the Panthers are currently left with glaring holes in their middle and bottom six. Recalling a 28-year-old, battle-tested veteran like Kunin makes perfect logistical sense for a team in transition.
Kunin brings a relentless, physical presence to the ice and the kind of "solid execution" required to navigate the final months of the season without completely sacrificing locker room competitiveness.
Head coach Paul Maurice will likely plug Kunin straight into a checking-line role, heavily relying on his penalty-killing utility and gritty forechecking identity to set a standard for the younger prospects making the jump.
However, as the Panthers evaluate their organizational depth chart heading into a critical summer, players like Kunin are being given a golden opportunity to secure a full-time NHL contract for the 2026-27 season, if he continues to prove he belongs.
While the organization's eyes are firmly fixed on the future, adding Kunin ensures the current lineup remains tough to play against every single night.
